چکیده

A microhotplate array comprising four 100 μm × 100 μm unit cells has been designed. It has a multi-layer structure: Sithermal oxide-polySi-PECVD (plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition) oxide-Sputtered Pt-Gas sensing film (SnO2). Electro-thermal simulation of the unit cell has been carried out using ANSYS. The simulations show that for an applied bias of 4 V a mean temperature of 706oC is obtained at the centre of the heater area. The heat is assumed to flow from the hot plate to the surrounding air at an ambient temperature of 30oC by conduction. The power dissipation is less than 50 mW. The paper presents the design methodology of the hotplate.

Design & Electro-Thermal Analysis of Microheater for Low Temperature MEMS based Gas Sensor

The advent of nanocrystalline metal oxide semiconductor permits microheater to be incorporated into integrated gas sensors to heat the sensing layer to a low temperature. The low temperature sensing allows the use of a relatively thin silicon membrane instead of zero Silicon membrane resulting into temperature uniformity across the entire active area (2mmx2mm) which in turn reduces the reliabil...

Design and Simulation of a New Highly Sensitive Gas Sensor Based on Negative Refraction Photonic Crystal

In this paper, design and simulation of a new highly sensitive gas sensor based on a hybrid photonic crystal (PC) structure, containing negative and positive refractive index sections, is presented. It has been shown that using a PC with negative refraction in the first section, the transmitted power is concentrated on the entrance of the sensing channel, and the transmission of the proposed se...

Analysis of polysilicon micro beams buckling with temperature-dependent properties

The suspended electrothermal polysilicon micro beams generate displacements and forces by thermal buckling effects. In the previous electro-thermal and thermo-elastic models of suspended polysilicon micro beams, the thermo-mechanical properties of polysilicon have been considered constant over a wide rang of temperature (20900°C). In reality, the thermo-mechanical properties of polysilicon depe...

Enhanced Plasmonic Wavelength Selective Infrared Emission Combined with Microheater

The indirect wavelength selective thermal emitter that we have proposed is constructed using a new microheater, demonstrating the enhancement of the emission peak generated by the surface plasmon polariton. The thermal isolation is improved using a 2 μm-thick Si membrane having 3.6 and 5.4 mm outer diameter. The emission at around the wavelength of the absorption band of CO₂ gas is enhanced. Th...
